Auction for space at IT expo sparks no interest

Expo fatigue seems to be setting in as organisers prepare for yet another IT exhibition.

The showroom space put up for auction on March 3 in advance of the Myanmar ICT Exhibition 2010 scheduled for March 19 to 21 at Tatmadaw Hall, Dagon township, failed to attract any bids.

The top showrooms will be rented for FEC6000 and FEC4800 per site, the same as the initial asking price, said Ma Myint Myint Nwe, one of the organisers, on March 3.

Among those renting space are Shwe La Min Nagar (Acer), Citicom, Lucky Bird, Royal Ayeyarwady, KMD, Golden Power and I.C.E. Other showrooms will be allocated by lot.

“Each time we participate in an expo, it’s to promote our own image. They have expos all the time, and it’s just to show the public rather than to sell,” said Ko Zaw Min Aung of Shwe La Min Nagar (Acer).

At the last exhibition managed by the Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF), in October 2009, a prime showroom fetched FEC11,600 at auction from a starting price of FEC6000.
