Tourism counter, soldiers for airport

Travellers passing through Nyaung Oo Airport will soon be greeted by actors dressed as ancient military leaders, the chairman of the Bagan Hotel Zone said last week.

The actors will wear the traditional garb of Bagan-era soldiers and will be stationed at the airport from 7am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm daily during the peak tourist season, U Than Shwe said.

The hotel zone began installing an information counter at Nyaung Oo Airport in early August and expects to complete it in time for a Greater Mekong Sub-region workshop on tourism to be held in Bagan in November, he said.

“Nyaung Oo Airport has a small information counter with three people ... the counter staff aren’t able to help everyone,” he said. “We are building a 20-foot (6-metre) information counter made from lacquerware and will increase the number of staff.”
