What's On: November 11-16

From gastronomic adventures to unmissable events, we’ve got your social life sorted for the next seven days.

EAT
Beaujolais Nouveau
Institut Francais, 340 Pyay Road, Sanchaung township
November 17, 7:30pm

Enjoy a “taste of France” at the first-ever Beaujolais Nouveau party in Myanmar, with French red wine, cheese and cold cuts. Tickets (US$25) are on sale at CCI France Myanmar, the French Institute and Novotel Yangon Max. But don’t worry if you miss out: this new event will return on the third Thursday of every month. A votre santé!

SHOP
Tree Food
350 Merchant Road, or at Hla Day/other gift shops near you

If you haven’t tried Tree Food’s organic jaggery then you’re missing a treat. These scrumptious bite-sized nuggets come in five different varieties: lemon, mint, yogurt, plain and – Myanmar Times newsroom favourite – ginger. If you’re looking for gifts to take home, the stylish packaging will do just the job.

DO
Live Music with Sounds of Jane
50th Street Bar, 50th Street, Botahtaung township

Dance the night away with Kuala Lumpur’s Sounds of Jane, known for their groovy spin on popular tunes from the 70s to the 2000s, playing a selection of rock, blues, funk, soul and everything in between.

WATCH
Total Recall (1990)
Nay Pyi Taw Cinema
November 13, 5pm

Don’t be put off by that dodgy 2012 remake – this free screening, brought to you by the Memory! International Film Festival, is a rare opportunity to see this sci-fi blockbuster on the big screen. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall is a fast-paced space film fiesta, filled with everything ol’ Arnie does best: violence, gore and cheesy humour.
