‘My Music Journal’ launched

Two well-known composers have teamed up to launch a journal for music lovers. U Min Chit Thu and U Myint Moe Aung released the first issue of My Music Journal on September 14, and say they hope to give readers a “different style” of journal than the plethora of pop publications already on the market.

The two composers have both taken on creative director roles at My Music Journal, while U Aung Kyaw Oo from Art Man Media is the publisher and chief executive officer and singer Mono Lay editor-in-chief.

“The style of writing will be to give readers all the facts but in a straight to the point way. We will try to give the reader a different style and taste [to other publications] and we think My Music Journal will be unique,” U Myint Moe Aung said He said the full-colour publication would also cover fashion, television and technology, as these were closely related to music, and would contain regular translated articles and occasional pieces by renowned writers.

“The entertainment business as a whole is growing, whether its movies, music, fashion or advertising. It is popular with the public and an attractive business sector. But we should recognise that music doesn’t only entertain through its sound but also the performance and fashion,” U Myint Moe Aung said.

One reader said last week she bought a copy of My Music Journal after seeing a billboard advertisement for it in downtown Yangon featuring model Chan Chan. “I’m crazy about music and … I was able to read about my favourite Myanmar and international singers,” said Ma Sandar Linn from Pazundaung township.

“This is the only journal focusing on music [so] I think K500 is reasonable, although I had to pay K600.” A vendor near Pansodan Road said My Music Journal was selling well. “It’s really the only one focusing on music. I think it will sell even better if there’s articles on famous singers like Lay Phyu,” he said.

“We buy copies [from the wholesaler] for K520 and sell them for K600.” U Min Chit Thu said he had been trying to publish a journal for many years but had faced some difficulties until now.

“We will create this journal to improve the ‘showbiz’ industry as much as we can,” he said. U Min Chit Thu is a an adviser to City FM, while U Myint Moe Aung presents the Melody World and Living Song programs and appears on Mandalay FM and MRTV-4 programs. My Music Journal is priced at K500 and will be published each Wednesday.
