Barman wows at 2017 championship

Organisers of the 4th Myanmar Bartender Championship were impressed by the skills displayed by the contestants and hoped this would be an indication of the improvement of capabilities of the new breed of bartenders in the country.

“All contestants are improving in presentation skill compared with the previous competition. Also, the creative cocktails are very good,” U Tun Tun Aye, vice chair of Myanmar Bartender Association told The Myanmar Times.

The competition was held in Yangon on August 2 and 3.

“The contestants are well-prepared in presentation, which I’ve never seen in previous competition. They have improved a lot in ‘bartendering’ as we saw in their presentations during the competition,” said U Nay Min, a judge at the competition.

“Bartenders are always needed in the bar industry as much as in the hotel industry. Some new hotels are opening very soon in Yangon as tourism continues to develop,” he said.

There were a total of 68 contestants from Nay Pyi Taw, Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake in Shan State and Yangon, much higher than the 50 bartenders who joined the completion last year.

The contestants have to compete in standard cocktail and creative cocktail within 9 minutes as this is the existing rule of the Asia Pacific Bartender Championship.

The champion in this year’s completion was Min Hein Latt who won US$500, the first runner up is Aung Ko Oo who got $300, the second runner up and Best Flair award went to Ye Lin Naing, the Best Cocktail award was won by Arkar Min and the Perfect Pull award by Carlsberg beer went to Phyo Min Thu

The champion and the first runner up will participate in Asia Pacific Bartender Championship in Philippine as Myanmar’s representative.
