Executives group to build 10 schools in delta

The Myanmar Business Executive Group (MBEG) plans to rebuild 10 schools in Nargis-affected areas with funding from a Swiss non-government organisation.

MBEG chairman U Myin Maung Tun said last month the group had completed two schools in 2009 and was currently building eight more.

Total funding provided by Caritas Switzerland is US$1.1 million, which also includes money for a small jetty and fully equipped clinic in one of the villages.

The schools are being built in Dedaye and Pyapon townships in Ayeyarwady Division.

“The school buildings will not only provide education for students but also for vocational training, like agricultural and livestock farming,” U Myin Maung Tun said at a foundation-laying ceremony in Dedaye township’s Than Date village on March 21.

He said the group plans to cooperate with NGOs to give vocational training to villagers.

MBEG was formed in 2007 by graduates of Yangon Institute of Economics’ Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program. Most members are executive-level employees at local companies or company owners.
