393 villages to be electrified in Mandalay

Some 393 villages in the Mandalay Region will have electricity connected under the National Electrification Plan (NEP) soon.

According to U Soe Min Tun, general manager from the regional Electicity Supply Corporation’s Engineering/Planning Department, the project is made possible via a World Bank loan.

“The NEP is carrying out the project with World Bank loan. It is not yet in the implementation stage but is already in the procurement and tender level. The project is to be carried out between 2017-18 and 2019-20. In all, 393 villages in Mandalay region will benefit,” he said.

In addition, the ongoing electrification of 200 villages per annum is being implemented under the State budget for the Mandalay Region. That State-budget project is being implemented simultaneously with the NEP project.

There are about 4700 villages in the Mandalay Region and over 1700 villages have already had access to electricity.
During 2016-17 budget year, three 66-KV (kilovolt), and seven 33-KV substations were built.
