A bus carrying Myanmar’s squash team was on its way from the team hotel to the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil when the accident occurred resulting in injuries to five of 10 people onboard.

While most injuries were minor, two women players sustained serious injuries. Ei Ei Pyone damaged her knee and the team doctor advised her rest, forcing her to pull out of the competition.

“It was the driver’s mistake. Some of our athletes got away with light injuries but in the case of Aye Aye Thin and Ei Ei Pyone it was serious. These two need to rest for a minimum two days.

‘‘We will have to substitute them with other players,’’ said U Myo Hlaing, chief director of Myanmar’s Health and Sports Ministry.

Myanmar’s squash matches were rescheduled.
